App Store updates Below are a few noteworthy apps and updates  for your smartphone (iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch) that I wanted to highlight. The selection of apps that I have chosen for this week can help you share your favorite links and photos with others who are nearby (who you might not even know),   translate text by speaking in your native language, and monitor your bank accounts and credit cards in real-time.

I hope you’ll enjoy this weeks mobile app selections – they’re not only extremely helpful, but very practical as well.

This week’s notable apps and updates:

Chirp: Imagine you’re at a conference and wanted to share links or photos that you have collected with your friends (or other attendees). It would be pretty difficult to find each person, collect their email addresses, and send out the information.  Where Chirp can help is that instead of tracking people down, all you simply need to do is have the Chirp app running and “chirp” out your photos or links.  This sends out a signal – kind of like the mockingly call from The Hunger Games. Anyone (even people you don’t know) who is running Chirp will receive the signal and then your updates that you have shared.  Pretty cool, no?

Consider this – not only did BBC praise this ‘digital songbird’ for their easier way to share content with others, but it this app also presents a tremendous opportunity to grow your network at the same time because of all the sharing you’ll be doing and potential leads you will be generating.

iTranslate Voice HD:  If you do a lot of translations, then you absolutely need this app. Not only does it translate 31 languages – both ways, but what’s really neat is that rather than typing out your phrases, all you do is speak them. Your iPad/iPhone does the rest, copying them to the clipboard so that you can then use them in emails, documents, etc.

SafePay:  The premise of the SafePay app is simple – monitor your online accounts for inappropriate transactions. If you do a lot of shopping online, it is vital to know if your accounts have been compromised. SafePay does this in real-time and helps with fraud prevention. This way you can have peace of mind knowing your accounts are safe and if something does happen, you can take action.

Mountain Lion: This week, Apple released the latest version of their OS X operating system called Mountain Lion. This upgrade brings a host of new features to your Mac. These include AirPlay, synced notes across your computer or iOS device (iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch), Messages (text-messaging across all Apple products), along with Power Nap, dictation and notification center – 200 new features in total (view the entire list).

Overall, my favorite new feature has to be Messages, with dictation and Power Nap coming in a close second and third. At just $19.99, this is a no-brainer for anyone who uses a mac, iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad because it helps keep you better organized and can help make you more productive.

Would’t it be easier to just tell someone something rather than have them turn on their Chirp app before you tell it to them?

    • http://www.christiankonline.com Christian Karasiewicz

Very true; however, what they’re looking to do with this app is to get widespread adoption – kind of like people being on Facebook and Twitter all of the time. This way when you’re at an event, you won’t have to think about having the app open – it will already be open and can listen for other people who are there using Chirp.
