Excellent post. I avoided FB for years, because it seemed like a waste of my time, I have plenty of actual friends whom I see and socialize with and send a paper birthday card through the mail, (can you believe that still takes place?) I view it as a ‘booty call’ as it is so often referenced in movies and since I’m married, I’m just not interested in 9th grade boyfriends nor old acquaintances. So having zero FB personal use will make it easy for me to separate the two factions of FB, business Vs personal. For ten years our small local business has grown by providing superb service and marketing via phone book, trade referrals and customer referrals. What changed my mind about FB is “74% of FB fans are more likely to recommend a product of brand.” Since such a large portion of our biz is referral and we are moving away from YP, it seems imperative to manage a good FB presence for our small business. Thanks Y’all

@hollymcilwain:disqus, glad you’re seeing the benefits of using Facebook for business. A lot of people think that because their Facebook Profile is filled with updates they are not interested in, a Facebook Page will have the same results.

That’s definitely not the case – if you’re a smart marketer and learn to use the tools as you’re using them. There is a lot of value, you just have to look past some of the noise.
