The Definitive guide on using save on Facebook

Have you ever found something you wanted to save on Facebook?

A lot of times when I have items I want to save, I use a combination of Evernote and Skitch.

This allows me to save text updates or if I want to save an entire Facebook post, I can easily take a photo and save the post.

While I love this combination, it doesn’t always work well on mobile devices.

When Facebook announced save on Facebook, a bookmarking tool for Facebook posts, I was eager to give this new feature a try.

Let’s take a look at the new save on Facebook feature and how it works.

What is save on Facebook?

Save on Facebook is a new way to be able to save items you find on Facebook so that you can read and respond to them later on.

This includes items such as links, places, movies, TV and music.

Items that you save on Facebook are only visible to you – unless you share them with friends.

What can you save on Facebook?

For now, these are the types of items you can save.

  • Links
  • Places
  • Music
  • Books
  • Movies
  • TV Shows
  • Events

When you save items on Facebook, you can only save them from  your news feed.

This mean you cannot go to a Facebook Page to save an item.

You also cannot use save on Facebook in add interest lists either.

What cannot be saved on Facebook?

Right now you cannot save the following items on Facebook.

  • Text updates
  • Photos
  • Videos

Save once, view anywhere!

One great thing about save on Facebook is that it works everywhere!

For example, you can save something on your desktop and then view saved items on your mobile device or even your tablet.

This feature also works on iOS and Android devices and the functionality is the same.

This is great news because now you don’t have to come up with a work-around depending on the device you are using to save items you find on Facebook!

How to properly perform a Facebook link share in four steps!

Do you wish your content could get seen more in the Facebook news feed?

Have you ever considered that you are sharing your content the wrong way?

For example, using a text update instead of a Facebook link share?

With recent changes to Facebook text updates, if you run a Facebook Page and want to have more people see your page posts in their news feed, you will want to use a Facebook link share instead.

Why the Facebook link share matters

Everything you share on Facebook on your Facebook Page is only seen by a select group of fans. This is because you are competing against other items in the news feed.

If you want to beat out your competition (or at least make a better showing), you’ll want to use Facebook link shares.

Not only do link shares take up more space in the news feed, which works to your benefit if you have an eye-catching image, but they have the opportunity to help you sell your content better to fans instead of posting a status update without any sort of visual.

Here is an example of a Facebook link share.

Creating a Facebook link share is very easy. I’m actually surprised more people don’t use them. To create a Facebook link share, follow these instructions.

Changing your affiliation with the Facebook Pages follow button

Facebook has been making a lot of updates to Facebook Pages over the past few months. Not only did they roll out the Facebook reviews button, which let’s fans leave a review about a business, but now they have now rolled out the Facebook Pages follow button.

While the follow button was a feature they were testing for Facebook Pages in October, it’s finally here.

What this means is that instead of liking every Facebook Page, fans and customers have a choice. They can like a page or choose to follow Facebook Pages.

I consider this to be a major announcement because it changes the level to which fans and customers can engage with a Facebook Page.

Changing interactions with Facebook Pages

Previously, the Facebook follow button was a feature only reserved for Facebook Profiles.

This gave people the opportunity to friend people they knew personally and to follow people they didn’t.

For example, most people would send a friend request to a family member and follow a celebrity or public figure. This way they would be able to see updates from both people in their news feed without being friends with everyone.

Now, instead of liking a Facebook Page by becoming a fan and liking their page, you can choose to follow a page instead.

Following vs. Liking a Facebook Page

As I mentioned, this is pretty significant. Here’s why.

Previously, in order to interact with a Facebook Page, you could add them to an interest list or if you wanted to see their updates in your news feed, you had to like their page.

This is great if it’s someone you know and you support their business. But what if you want to see their updates in your news feed, but you don’t really want to endorse them (because that’s what liking a page essentially does). There really was no other option.

With the follow button for Facebook Pages, now you can selectively choose which pages you like and which ones you follow.

In both situations, this solves the problem of seeing their updates in the news feed and it let’s fans and customers be more selective about which pages they endorse to their friends.

How to add Facebook stickers to Facebook Messenger

If you’re not impressed with collection of Facebook stickers you have in Facebook Messenger, you can add Facebook stickers.

What are Facebook stickers?

Facebook stickers are a way to send images from your favorite holidays or television shows to friends through Facebook Messenger.

They are a great way to add personality to your conversations on Facebook.

Besides sending stickers to friends, stickers can also be sent to business associates you are following on Facebook, but I would be careful doing this. Sometimes it can send the wrong message.

To add Facebook stickers, follow these instructions.

How to boost a Facebook post (and get better results) without the Facebook boost post button

Are you missing the boost post button on your Facebook Page posts? This is the button that appears to the right of the number of people who saw your Facebook post.

Example of a Facebook Page post with the boost post button.

While this is a quick and easy way to advertise a specific Facebook Page post to more people, most users think that they absolutely need it. Guess what, you really don’t.

It also works in your favor that you don;t have the boost post button on your page posts.

So why I am so against using the boost post button on your Facebook Page posts?

Why you don’t need the Facebook boost post button

The boost post button is a cheap thrill to get your posts seen by more people.

While in theory this sounds great and if you use it, more people will see your posts, what boost post doesn’t do is get it in front of the right people.

Here’s a great example from Dennis Yu using the boost post button.

Facebook boost post example
Example of the Facebook boost post button

As you can see in this example, a lot of the comments that were received don’t relate to the product. So yes, the boost post button did its job – it took your money and showed it to more people.

What it didn’t do was show it to the right people.

So how do you fix the boost post button? My recommendation is to use Facebook Ads to boost your post instead of the Facebook boost post button.

This way you can get target who see’s your posts and where they see it.

For example, the normal boost post button let’s you target basic demographic information.

When you don’t use the boost post button, you actually get better targeting, which you’ll see below.

How to remove Facebook Stickers from messenger

While you can easily send Facebook stickers to your friends through Facebook Messenger, how do you remove Facebook stickers?

Why remove stickers?

Although I’m not a fan of Facebook stickers, some users have added lots of stickers to communicate their love for Duck Dynasty or to celebrate a holiday.

Over time, as you add more and more stickers, you could find yourself spending more time trying to locate your favorite Facebook stickers to share instead of using Facebook Messenger to quickly communicate with your friends.

Fortunately, in just a few steps, you can remove Facebook stickers you no longer want or need.

If you have added Facebook stickers from the sticker store and want to remove Facebook stickers, follow the instructions below.

Note: One thing that is very useful about removing stickers is that the process works the same across the desktop and mobile version of Facebook.
