5 ideas for Facebook Page Timeline cover photos

5 Facebook Timeline cover photo ideasFacebook Timeline – love it or hate it, it’s here to stay as of March 30, 2012.  While embracing change may be difficult for some people, with the new Facebook Pages Timeline layout, there are now a lot of GREAT benefits for page owners.  We’re going to share with you 5 ideas for Facebook Page Timeline cover photos to help you make the most of the new Facebook Pages and to help you attract more visitors and customers as a result.

So before we begin, lets talk about why you would want to use a Timeline cover photo.

With Facebook removing the ability to have fans land on a default landing page, page owners will need a new hook to get fans excited about their Facebook Page. Enter Timeline cover photos. Not only are they the first thing fans see, but they can really help show off your business and what you have to offer. And we’re not just talking logos or photo of yourself. If you’re a musician and you write your own songs, share photos of you in the studio. If you have a product, show photos of that product – it could be the product when it is getting manufactured, a finished product, or even a sample product you are working on. This way you let fans know who you are and what you have to offer, and it gives them better insight into what you do and helps get them excited about it too.

So here are 5 ideas for Facebook Page Timeline cover photos to consider posting on your Facebook Page.

Facebook Page changes in 2012

Another year, another Facebook Page change. Over the past few days, I’ve been producing a series of videos on Facebook Page changes in 2012 that cover the new changes you can expect when all Facebook Pages are switched over to the new layout on March 30, 2012. For those of you who want a quick rundown on what has changed and how to apply these changes, I’ve put together a complete guide below — complete with a downloadable PDF file.

Not only are Facebook Pages getting a facelift in 2012, but I can definitely tell you you’ll really like these new features once you get used to them. They add depth to your Facebook Page, something that was sorely missing from past iterations. In addition, page owners will get a lot of new features that they can use to upsell their content. And by upsell, I don’t just mean products. If you primarily post updates about news, you can highlight some of your best posts, use the pin to top feature – to keep polls at the top of your Facebook Page, and add layers of content by adding in Milestones.

So enough about all of these exciting new changes – take a moment to view the following image, which highlights Facebook Page changes in 2012. There’s a lot there, so I’ve broken them down to make it easier to digest.

3 types of questions to ask your Facebook fans

Know your Facebook fansPop quiz: Who are your top fans on your Facebook Page? For most Facebook Page owners, you probably don’t know this valuable information…but you should.

The bread and butter of any company who is using social media to build engagement with fans and potential customers isn’t the number of fans you have, nor is it the amount of cash you make off it. Rather, it is the relationships you build with your customers.

Why is this important?

Without fans who are engaged, it’s like trying to swim against the current. You’ll eventually get to your destination, but it will take you twice as long (if not longer). One other thing to remember, simply asking a question is not the key to finding out who your top fans are. What it will do is help stir interest. As a Facebook Page owner, you’ll want to pay attention to who responds and make a mental note on people you see responding on a recurring basis – these are the fans you want to  focus in on and learn about, because they seem the most likely engaged fans because they’re responding often.

Below are three types of questions you can ask your fans starting today to help you learn more about them and to help you better engage with them.

Why Facebook Milestones are the next big thing for Facebook Pages

Facebook Milestones for Facebook Timeline

Yesterday, Facebook released an update to Facebook Pages. This new update adds in the hotly debated Timeline to Facebook Pages.  While some Facebook users dislike the new Timeline feature, I actually like it – and here’s why.

In addition to being able to share photos, videos, status updates and links to content on their Facebook Timeline, Facebook Page owners now have the ability to add in milestones as well. Facebook Milestones are essentially historical moments in the history of a business, a brand, a product, even a band.  With Facebook Milestones, Facebook Pages takes on a much needed level of depth.

For example, Tiffany’s now has a Facebook Page complete with milestones about the company’s rich history. New organizations such as the NY Times have also done an incredible job of not only showcasing current news, but also of providing a very detailed and thorough listing of the NY Times throughout its lustrous history.

What this means is that in addition to sharing current content, Facebook Page owners can now show off the present as well as their storied past by adding milestones to their Facebook Page Timeline.  This means you can now let fans share in the history of your product – think of it like Wikipedia.  What I like most about Facebook Pages’ new feature, it now let’s page owners tell their past to help bring fans up to speed about the page – where it came from, where it’s at, and where it’s going.

Obviously, your Facebook Page won’t write its own milestones – it will be up to Facebook Page owners to do this. For those page owners who take the time to complete a detailed view of their past, they can expect to see a nice boost from this though because it will help to make your Facebook Page more sticky.

By adding in lots of great content to keep fans on your page (or at least looking for your content), you can expect to see higher levels of interaction, the more you share!

To learn how to add Facebook Milestones to your Facebook Pages, watch this brief video tutorial on Facebook Milestones.

8 simple and effective Facebook Page status updates you can start using today!

8 types of effective Facebook Page status updatesThe best way to engage your Facebook fans is by posting status updates (duh!). What most people fail to realize is that it isn’t just about posting status updates (and lots of them). Instead, you need to take a step back and create more meaningful updates that will enchant and intrigue your fans to where they want to comment, like or share your status updates with others.

Sounds a lot easier said than done, doesn’t it? In addition to focusing on the quality of your status updates, you also need to be aware of Facebook’s algorithm called Edgerank.  Edgerank is an assigned score that determines your placement in someone else’s Facebook Newsfeed.

Edgerank scores focus on three main variables; popularity (how many likes, comments or shares a post gets), fan interest/relevance (how often do fans interact with your page – if at all) and recency (when your status update was posted). Each of these criteria are combined to then determine a Facebook Edgerank score, which pushes your content up someones News Feed.

So how do I get more comments, likes and shares to improve my Facebook Edgerank?

It is important to realize that it isn’t about the sheer quantity of updates, rather it is about the interactions and buzz generated from those updates.  I certainly recognize that coming up with status updates and ideas to post on a regular basis can be challenging.  That’s why I have put together a list of status updates that you can start using today to improve the levels of engagement with fans which can increase comments, likes and shares your updates receive.

Note: before writing any status updates, remember the golden rule of marketing – “know your customers.” Modify your status updates with the below recommendations so that they are unique to your Facebook Page and your customers.

8 simple and effective status updates you can use on Facebook Pages to generate better engagement with fans:
